A robotic arm doing a welding task

Machines of the future will be much smarter: they will warn the user about breakdowns, indicate the wear and fatigue of key components, and determine appropriate maintenance schedules.

  • Shelved timber that has been cut to different shapes and sizes as part of a broader manufacturing process.

Smart machines that ‘yell out’ when they need repairing, robots that can weld all day, and laser-guided timber cutting, are just a few things CSIRO is working on to support our manufacturing industry.
