Information for teachers about the Bodyworks program for students in Years 3 - 6 in the Northern Territory.

Description
Students explore features and concepts relating to the human body to develop an understanding of how it functions. This workshop allows students to work collaboratively through several workstations to:

focus on body systems such as the nervous, digestive, immune and respiratory systems, including the consequences of inappropriate diet and lifestyle choices

develop manipulative skills associated with measurement and microscopy
-
collect data and present their results to peers
-
improve their scientific literacy and numeracy.
Students explore topics such as:

body systems
-
fingerprints and genes
-
-
-
Through hands-on activities, students:
-
determine sugar concentrations using a refractometer
-
measure breathing rates and reaction time
-
study chemical reactions in the liver
-
investigate lung capacity and measure peak flow.
Curriculum References
Bodyworks will provide an opportunity for students to achieve a range of learning outcomes within the Australian Curriculum. Within this module, students demonstrate evidence of learning from Year 3-6 across the following components:
- Science As A Human Endeavour - Nature and development of science use and influence of science.
- Science Inquiry Skills - questioning and predicting, planning and conducting, processing, analysing data and information, evaluating, communicating
- Science Understandings - Biological sciences
Details
This workshop is available for students in Years 3 - 6.
Sessions last for 90 minutes and cost A$6.00 per student (GST free). There is a minimum charge of A$88 (GST free). A Lab on Legs fee of A$30 (GST free) applies to single in-school visits. Schools will be invoiced after the session.
