Students assume the role of forensic scientists to solve a crime.
Students undertake a number of practical investigations and use a variety of strategies to solve the crime, including:
-

-
facial identification
-
fingerprint comparison
-
soil analysis
-
dental x-rays
-

-
fabric and fibre analysis.
The program is designed for groups of up to 30 students.
The scenario for the crime is introduced and the students are shown the experiments. Students are issued with a logbook in which they record their findings.
There are 13 activities. Students work in groups of two or three. Each group of students is not expected to complete all of the experiments but all activities will be covered by the class.
The data from the groups is collated by the class and students use the evidence to try to solve the problem. It is expected that they will report their findings to the class and write a report.
Teachers are provided with a set of notes that includes a summary of the workshop and the experimental findings.
