Information for teachers about the Starlab program for students from Prep to Year 6, including booking details.
Description
From an early age we begin to wonder about our place in the universe, especially after we have observed the night sky. Why can't we see the stars during the day? What causes day and night? Why does the Moon change shape? What are planets and where can I find them?
Using our portable planetarium, supplied by Questacon, we can take students on a journey of discovery beyond the Earth without leaving the school.
We are also able to train teachers to use the Starlab dome. Trained teachers can then hire the dome from us to use as required within their school. Contact us for more details.
Students find out who studies space and how they do it, and explore:
-
the Earth's relationship to the sun, the solar system and stars
-
why it gets dark at night and effects of the movement of the Earth
-
how the seasons are created by the sun and the moving Earth and why winter light is different to summer light
-
phases of the Moon
-
the planets of our solar system and all about the Milky Way
-
constellations of stars, including navigation and interpretations from different cultures.
