Information for parents about CSIRO's birthday party service - book a scientist to entertain and amaze at your next birthday party.
Description
Why not try something different this birthday? Book a scientist for hands-on entertainment and learning. Why just serve ice cream when we can come and make it right there for you?
The birthday child receives a gift of a 1 year membership in Double Helix Science Club. If the child is already a member, an alternative science related gift will be arranged.
The presenter will choose activities appropriate to the age group and venue. The activities allow children to:
-
watch ice cream be made instantly using liquid nitrogen (tasting involved!)
-
use the power of air pressure to launch powerful water rockets metres into the sky
-
make and take home their own bag of green slime
-
produce the biggest best bubbles ever using our special giant bubble makers
-
create a chemical reaction to launch film canister rockets
-
use Bernoulli's principle to suspend a ping-pong ball in mid-air using only a straw
-
create a bubble maker that will form bubbles with corners
-
make sherbet and experience a chemical reaction occurring right inside their own mouth.
Details
The presentation runs for 90 minutes and costs A$385 for up to 20 children. Extra children (to a maximum of 30 children) incur a A$20 surcharge per child. To participate, children must be aged 5 and over.
For the presentation, we require:
-
a table
-
a car space to park our vehicle (on the street outside your house is fine)
-
additional adult supervision and assistance for some activities
-
a large open area for party, eg backyard, hall, park.
Note: provisions can be made for inside locations but some activities are only possible in outside venues.
