CSIRO’s cotton research has delivered significant economic, social and environmental benefits to growers throughout Australia.

Over 100 cotton varieties

Australian cotton has the highest yields in the world, and 100 per cent of it is currently grown from CSIRO varieties – we've released 113 since 1984.

Crop management

CSIRO researchers are working to develop improved crop management techniques for maximum economic, environmental and social benefits.

Next generation cotton

We're creating cotton with many of the properties of synthetics, such as being stretchy, non-creasing and even waterproof, while remaining biodegradable.

Cotton pest management

CSIRO is leading the way in developing sustainable, environmentally-friendly ways of dealing with cotton pests.
