CSIRO’s Industry PhD Program CSIRO’s Industry PhD (iPhD) Program supports a three-way partnership aiming to train new researchers in critical areas and facilitate long-term beneficial interaction between research organisations and industry. Program Benefits •Access an industry PhD training program aligned tonational priorities and funded by Government •develop new, or strengthen relationships withindustry and CSIRO •enhance innovation and potential tocommercialise research with industry and CSIRO •provide PhD students with an opportunity todevelop industry-focussed professional skills •gain access to CSIRO and industry facilities andexpertise. Program Funding& Support The iPhD program is funded by the Australian Government and the industry partner for up to four years. For projects commencing in 2027: •Student scholarship of $49,513 p.a. comprising of$37,153 p.a. provided by the Government and$12,360 p.a. provided by the industry partner • • Project Expense and Development package of$13,390 p.a. provided by the Government forresearch operating costsstudent career and professional developmenttraining funding provided by the Government. Program Requirements iPhD projects must: •Align with CSIRO & Government priorities •address an industry problem while complying withthe university’s requirements of a PhD program •be with an Australian industry partner or anindustry partner with an Australian presence •be limited to domestic students •include at least a 60-day Industry Engagementcomponent, conducting research under theguidance of the industry partner. Universities must: •Provide a suitably experienced researcher to bethe primary supervisor of the PhD student for upto four years •lead student advertising, recruitment andenrolment processes with support from CSIRO •provide access to facilities and infrastructure, ifrequired for the project •provide a fee off-set for the student •monitor and assess the student in accordance withthe university’s Higher Degree by Researchpolicies.
