Carbonyls were collected on to Supelco LpDNPH S10 cartridges. Samples were refrigerated immediately after sampling until analysis. The dnph derivatives were extracted from the cartridge in 2.5mL of acetonitrile and analysed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with diode array detection (DAD). Further details of this method can be found in Lawson et al 2015.
Volatile organic compound samples were collected on to two multi-adsorbent tubes in series (Markes Carbograph 1TD / Carbopack X). The adsorbent tubes were then analysed by a PerkinElmer TurboMatrix 650 ATD and a Hewlett Packard 6890A gas chromatography (GC) equipped with a Flame Ionization Detector (FID) and a Mass Selective Detector (MSD). Certified BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes), TO 15/17, terpenes, alcohols and PAM gas standards were used for the calibration, further details of this method can be found in Min et al 2016 . The method of AT (adsorbent tube) VOC sampling and analysis in this study was compatible with ISO16017-1:2000 (ISO 2000) and according to USEPA Compendium method TO-17 (USEPA TO-17).
