We offer a range of traineeships and cadetships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our focus is on vocational and educational development.

Indigenous cadetships

Cadetship placements are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are enrolled full-time in their first undergraduate degree course.  If you're currently studying (or about to commence) a degree in one of the following disciplines, we're especially keen to hear from you:

  • Science
  • Engineering
  • Computer science
  • Human Resources
  • Communications.

Our Indigenous cadetships offer a combination of full time study and work placements within CSIRO (usually completed during the long break at the end of each academic year) and provide:

  • a study allowance of $300 per week during periods of full-time study
  • financial assistance of $500 per semester to assist with study costs
  • 12 week paid work placement during each year of the cadetship
  • payment of HECS fees by CSIRO on successful completion of study.

Applicants must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and enrolled for full-time study in their first undergraduate degree course at an Australian university.

Successful applicants will need to register for the Indigenous Cadetship Support.

Indigenous cadetships are advertised at various times throughout the year via our current vacancies portal. You can also register your interest in our Indigenous cadetships at any time to be emailed opportunities and events as they become available.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traineeships

Our traineeship program offers exciting work environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are starting out on their career paths for the first time, or for those commencing a brand new career. By combining employment with structured on the job training, trainees will receive a nationally recognised qualification upon successful completion of the program.

Over the course of the traineeship, trainees will undertake on‐the‐job training and complete a Nationally Accredited Qualification relative to their position. Upon successful completion of the training package the trainee will be considered for ongoing employment with CSIRO, if available.

Applicants must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and prepared to undertake study towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traineeships are advertised at various times throughout the year via our current vacancies portal. You can also register your interest in CSIRO Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traineeships at any time to be emailed opportunities and events as they become available.
