During the 2015 implementation of the program, 40 teachers attended eight hours of teacher professional development prior to the implementation of the inquiry into their classrooms. The design of the sessions was very specific to ensure that teachers were given sufficient time and every chance to familiarise themselves with the required science content, Indigenous context and hands on engagement with the science inquiry process.

The professional development was delivered by I2S2 coordinators in an after school model, and the sessions included are detailed below.

Teacher Professional Development Session Time allocation
Session 1 - Program Overview Week 1 - Monday
(2 hours)
Session 2 - Cultural Awareness Week 1 - Tuesday

Session 3 - Inquiry Part 1: Unpacking the Scaffolded Inquiry Week 3 - Monday

Session 4 - Inquiry Part 2: Unpacking the Guided Inquiry Week 3 - Tuesday
