In 2015 the I2S2 program was implemented in Queensland and New South Wales with year 5 and year 8 teachers.
Catholic, Independent and State education schools were approached to participate in the pilot program. Six clusters were formed across these two states which involved 14 schools.

During the 2015 implementation of the program, 40 teachers attended eight hours of teacher professional development prior to the implementation of the inquiry into their classrooms. The design of the sessions was very specific to ensure that teachers were given sufficient time and every chance to familiarise themselves with the required science content, Indigenous context and hands on engagement with the science inquiry process.
The professional development was delivered by I2S2 coordinators in an after school model, and the sessions included are detailed below.

Two inquiries in total were implemented during the 2015 rollout. Year 5 What’s Cooking Inquiry and Year 8 Fire A Burning Question. Delivery of the professional development, implementation of the inquiry into the classroom and class visits to assist building teacher capability, occurred during Term 3, 2015.
