This research aims to create a sustainable future in a world of accelerating change and disruption. Our work supports resilient communities and liveable cities by helping government, industry, and urban and regional communities use integrated system approaches to deal with population changes and other disruptions, and harness innovation to create a more equitable and prosperous society.

Innovation and adaptation in livelihood development

Our social and economic work is helping communities in Australia and overseas to adapt their livelihoods for the future. In particular, we are helping developing economies address challenges such as water security, sustainable agriculture and climate adaptation.

Monitoring, measuring and conserving biodiversity

With Australia's biodiversity in steep decline, CSIRO researchers are leading the efforts to build fundamental knowledge on the nature, extent and history of our native species. We work closely with our partner organisations to ensure a consistent approach to biodiversity monitoring and conservation across the country.
