We’re building Australia’s first collaborative worldwide accredited lab for producing protein for Phase-I and Phase-II trials.
A road-block for local drug manufacturers
Typically, Australian biotech companies must head overseas to manufacture their potentially life-saving drugs for clinical trials in Australia.

Unfortunately, the associated high costs and long waiting lists for overseas manufacturing can prevent many smaller Australian companies from taking their new therapies beyond the laboratory.
Australia’s first cGMP facility
We’re looking to change that, by building Australia’s first collaborative worldwide accredited lab for producing protein for Phase-I and Phase-II trials.
Expected to be open by the end of 2021, our new Advanced Biologics Manufacturing Facility for rapid and cost-effective protein production will turn vaccine and drug candidates into safe and effective pharmaceuticals that can be manufactured at scale using industry-relevant techniques.

The facility will be Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) accredited which meets the United State’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards, enabling Australian biotech companies to enter overseas markets.
The facility will also serve as a cornerstone for the proposed establishment of an Australian vaccine pipeline and will be an integral part of the Australian biosafety network, capable of rapid production of vaccines and anti-venoms in the case of emergencies.
It’s another way we’re helping Australia’s biomedical industry grow and compete globally through innovative science and technology.
This laboratory is part of the National Biologics Facility (NBF), with nodes at UQ, UTS and CSIRO and funded under the NCRIS scheme, administered by Therapeutic Innovation Australia (TIA).
We partner with small and large companies, government and industry in Australia and around the world.
