The Virtual Work Experience – Defence Industry Stream was piloted in 2022 with a small cohort of Year 10 and 11 students from around Australia who were mentored by professionals within five defence industry businesses. Students completed projects across a range of topics relevant to their supervisor’s expertise, from Engineering to Manufacturing and Cyber Security.
We are now looking for the next cohort of defence industry supervisors, and we invite you to participate in this unique opportunity, to showcase your career, be a role model and provide inspiration to the next generation of STEM professionals, and perhaps learn a thing or two from curious young minds along the way. All that is required from you is to agree to supervise a group of five students over a 5-day placement anytime during 2023. The supervision will take place remotely, using a secure online platform and CSIRO will work with you to develop a STEM based project based on your role/field of work, suitable for the students to undertake during their placement. The time commitment is minimal, approximately 2 hours per day, divided across the morning and afternoon.
Supervisors can be from any defence industry partner organisation or businesses.
