About our traineeships
Developing the next generation of world-class scientists, engineers and staff to support them is critical to building Australia's future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and innovation capable workforce, and CSIRO is contributing to this by increasing our engagement in educating, training, and mentoring students.
Here's what you need to know
Our traineeship program offers diverse, multicultural work environments across CSIRO in all areas of science, research and support services, such as human resources, administration, finance, communication, information technology, lab assistants and more.
Opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
CSIRO's Indigenous Engagement Strategy seeks to increase the employment of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our organisation. Through this strategy, we're enhancing the educational, employment, training and career development opportunities for people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for our traineeship program. As an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander trainee, you will be provided with the opportunity to participate in CSIRO's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Forum which brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees across the organisation via a monthly webinar.
What our traineeships offer you
Start your career on the right path by applying for a traineeship in an area that interests you.
Our traineeships last approximately one to two years (depending on the course of study) and include paid, structured on the job training while you complete a Nationally Accredited Qualification relevant to your position.
The course fees are paid for by CSIRO, and you will be given time to attend courses to complete this qualification while working.
Past trainees have successfully completed studies in business administration, laboratory skills and techniques, land management and conservation, food science and accounts administration. After successfully completing the program, you will also be considered for ongoing employment with CSIRO, if available.
Requirements and eligibility
As an applicant you must be prepared to undertake study towards a nationally accredited qualification plus be willing and able to work full time.
