The GFG Foundation Student Programme is a partnership between GFG Foundation, CSIRO and Princes Trust Australia, and is currently aimed at students in years 9 and 10. Having operated in Whyalla, SA, since 2019, we are excited to be expanding the programme to Newcastle, NSW, in 2021. To date, we have recruited more than 20 committed and passionate mentors from GFG Alliance work sites in Whyalla to support students as they engage in activities designed to further develop their interpersonal and enterprise skills, as well STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) skills.
We are now inviting applications from prospective mentors employed at GFG Alliance work sites in Whyalla SA, and Newcastle NSW, to support our programme participants in term 3 and 4, 2021. We are seeking applicants from across a range of business units, and with a wide range of experience and professional skills including STEM professionals, Administrative professionals, and Business Support and Development professionals.
Mentors are required to participate in a 90-minute face to face session with students once per week, from 4pm to 5.30pm, either on Tuesdays (Newcastle) or Wednesdays (Whyalla).
Prior to the programme commencing, mentors will be required to participate in training sessions provided by both CSIRO, and NAPCAN (National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect). Mentors are required to hold a current Working With Children Check and a National Police Clearance. CSIRO Education and Outreach will support mentors to obtain these checks.
