About the placement
This internship is with Yenda Producers Co-Operative and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.
Using your knowledge in agriculture and/or horticulture, you will work to provide clients with valuable insight into how to best manage their broadacre cropping or horticulture (nut) crops.
In this placement you will have the opportunity to follow your own interests, developing the skills to set yourself up for a career in the agricultural industry.
Under the direction of experienced team members, you will assist them to:
- Carry out soil and/or tissue tests.
- Assist with in store grower customer service support.
- Identify weeds, pests and diseases in a variety of crops.
- Become familiar with product labels and permits.
- Assist with chemical and fertiliser forecasts.
- Support preparation of farm plans.
- Complete crop scouting.
- Assist with GPS mapping.
- Assist with farm planning.
- Assist with product recommendations.
- Provide administrative support.
Work arrangements
- Start date: Negotiable (October preferred)
- Working arrangement: Casual employment for 200-400 hours on a fixed term contract, with the possibility for further employment for the right candidate
- Remuneration: $32.10/hour plus super on a temporary contract with Yenda Producers Co-Operative
- Location: Yenda, NSW (Riverina)
- Number of positions available: 2 (one in Horticulture and one in Agronomy)
Desired capabilities
- Studying a bachelor degree in agricultural science.
- Experience with data processing and analysis.
- Should be able to drive a manual vehicle and readily use PPE in hot or cold outdoor conditions.
Requirements
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate or TAFE qualification.
About the Industry Partner
Yenda Producers Co-Operative is an agricultural business that supplies agricultural inputs and on-farm agronomy, horticultural and animal health advice. They have a customer base of around 2,000 members and are involved in a variety of farming businesses. The business undertakes trials, research and development to understand new products and services and innovate their existing services.
Field staff spend time on farm, gathering information and assessing conditions to recommend the most appropriate action for the client producers.
