Find out more how STEM CPP can benefit your business.
Generation STEM aims to build a strong community of citizens who live, learn, work, and play locally. Through the STEM Community Partnerships Program (STEM CPP), your business can inspire the next generation by demonstrating the real-world use of STEM skills, while promoting the range of career opportunities available to young people in their community.
Benefits of joining the STEM CPP
Joining the STEM CPP is highly beneficial for employers. Being part of the program will help build a talent pool of highly skilled 'work-ready' students ready to transition to the local STEM workforce. It's also an opportunity for you to partner with local schools and showcase the importance of your company and industry to the local community, increasing awareness of your brand.
Best of all, there's no cost for employers to be part of the STEM CPP.
There are two main eligibility criteria to be part of a STEM CPP.
- Your business must either be in a STEM industry (science, agriculture, maths, design, engineering, health, ICT, technicians, trades and manufacturing) or you must use STEM innovation in the workplace.
- Your business commits to at least one of the program activities per year. Participation in the program is flexible and can scale up or down to suit your availability.
Annual workshops are held with industry and local government to identify the biggest challenges in your region. These challenges will then provide stimulus for classroom investigations, where students find STEM solutions for these local challenges. Allow one hour workshop plus networking and travel time.
The STEM Professionals in Schools program invites you to assist teachers as they guide their students through the inquiry process. As an industry mentor you will be invited to attend the end-of-year project showcase, where the best student solutions are presented to the local community. Mentor time is flexible and negotiated between teachers and STEM professionals.
Just one encounter with a STEM professional at work can spark a lifetime passion for STEM in young people. Help us take students out of the classroom and into the workplace to witness the real-world applications of STEM by hosting a tour of your business.
A visit to your workplace will demonstrate the different STEM careers available to students in their community. Allow 30-60 minutes per visit plus additional planning time with CSIRO project officers, who will assist with the logistical planning of the visit.
Attend an end-of-year student showcase event to see young people present ideas that solve local challenges. Your questions and support could lead to the development and further use of the concept. Allow 30 minutes to two hours.
Deliver a masterclass on a topic that showcases your business and industry's work and innovation, whilst engaging students in the real-world application of STEM. We'll work with you to develop the content of the masterclass to make sure it is fun and engaging.
Provide the opportunity for a student to experience what working in your business or industry is like. This is a flexible arrangement to suit your workplace.
