About the placement

This internship is with ABx and is facilitated by the CSIRO's Generation STEM Links program.

You will be working with an experienced team to accelerate laboratory and pilot plant work to scale-up the novel Alcore processes for producing hydrogen fluoride and aluminium fluoride from industrial waste.

You will start this placement by getting hands on experience in the lab, conducting small scale sulphate dissolution and separation experiments. This will give you a good understanding of the procedures and processes needed for scaled manufacturing. You will use this knowledge to contribute to the commercial plant design and suggest improvements to the processes and procedures.

Hydrogen fluoride is used in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries, and aluminium fluoride is an essential chemical for aluminium smelting. The Alcore process involves advanced chemistry to produce hydrogen fluoride and aluminium fluoride from lower-cost feed materials, including industrial waste.
