The STEM Champion Award celebrates individuals who are contributing to the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in achieving their STEM aspirations.
The award targets those who have played a key role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, teachers, schools and communities in STEM programs such as but not limited to the Inquiry for Indigenous Science Students (I2S2), PRIME Futures or Science Pathways for Indigenous Communities. Nominations for this award may be completed by teachers, principals, students or be self-nominated.
The winner will receive a prize of $5000.
To be eligible for this award the nominee must:
- have inspired and supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in seeking STEM education pathways and/or careers
- have contributed to the effective and innovative implementation of STEM programs in schools that engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as well as non-Indigenous students and teachers
- have contributed to engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, community and organisations to incorporate Indigenous knowledge into core STEM programs and lesson plans
Applications for Indigenous STEM Awards will open again in 2021.
