ACTIVITY: EXPLORE STEM CAREERS IN YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY Duration: Teacher to set time allocation. Activity to be completed in conjunction with National Science Week 2018. Task: Individual activity Students to interview a STEM professional and note the different STEM disciplines in their role and how they use them in their work. Who can I interview? Someone who uses Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics in their job. This person could be a relative, family friend, someone who works in the school, or in the wider community. What types of questions can I ask? Name and job title? Can you describe what your job involves? What is your favourite thing about your job? What qualification/s, pathway or job training did you complete? What do you identify as the key STEM disciplines in your day-to-day role? How do you use them? Why is your job important? What difference does it make to our community? What (or who) inspired you to do this role? Class discussion: STEM professionals are found in many different fields.
