The National Bushfire Intelligence Capability (NBIC) addresses the on-going need for science-based, readily accessible, authoritative national data and analyses on bushfire hazard that considers future climate over a range of timescales.
We do this through the development of bushfire behaviour products and the capture of relevant lessons about infrastructure loss for application to future bushfire events.
NBIC's governance has three levels with members from states, territories and the Commonwealth. Members of each governance body can be found through the links.
The NBIC Board provides strategic direction and guidance to deliver national outcomes and, together with the NBIC Council, creates and sustains the NBIC authorising environment. It governs the NBIC project, oversees its governance arrangements, and collaboratively addresses delivery, funding and outcome accountabilities.
The role of the NBIC Council is to create and sustain a whole-of-government authorising environment for the release and use of national data and tools, while guiding the strategic direction of NBIC through identification and endorsement of national bushfire research priorities to achieve national outcomes.
The NBIC Technical Committee establishes and sustains data supply chains into and out of NBIC, while endorsing product design decisions and the delivery of NBIC products to ensure they meet stakeholder needs. It also endorses the establishment of Working Groups where required and engages with NBIC Council members to promote alignment between technical and strategic decision-making across governments.
