We have welcomed more than 800 people into our Living Lab since it opened just over 6 months ago. Our participants are keen to be part of the research, and have already provided a lot of information about their household and related information. Find out more in our Living Lab update.
As part of our work with the NSW Government and RACE for 2030 CRC, we are now seeking to bring in 60 food-related businesses into the Living Lab. If you know of any small food-related businesses in NSW that could benefit from personalised energy insights, please let them know about this opportunity!
We are currently finalising projects with government agencies interested in decarbonisation and resilience modelling, researchers from inside and outside of CSIRO interested in research with the Living Lab, and innovators keen to trial products in the Living Lab. We will share more on these projects soon.

Providing clarity on NEAC’s use of Model-Based Systems Engineering
While Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is well established in areas such as aerospace, automotive and defence, it is relatively new to the energy space. Our Principal Systems Scientist, Prof Amro M Farid, explained how NEAC is using MBSE in energy use cases such as industrial and freight decarbonisation at the Systems Engineering Test & Evaluation (SETE) Conference in April 2026.
We received excellent feedback from our peers about the way we are using MBSE methodology, with several senior academics in the field expressing interest in staying updated on our progress.
We have found that the link between NEAC, Model-Based Systems Engineering and Hetero-Functional Graph Theory (HFGT) is novel to many. This explainer outlines how each one is connected and supports insights into Australia’s energy system.
