Have your say: Frontier AI adoption survey

A national research survey is underway, and the team behind it wants to hear from the people shaping how frontier AI is used across Australia's critical infrastructure.

It is looking at how frontier AI - the most advanced, general-purpose AI systems, like the latest large language models - is being adopted, governed, and risk managed across key sectors such as water, health, energy, communications, transport and banking.

The survey covers:

  • Frontier AI deployments already in place, and what's planned next
  • How common "shadow AI" is - unapproved or informal use inside organisations
  • How prepared organisations are for the risks that come with more advanced AI systems.

This study is supported by a grant from the AI Security Institute (AISI) through the AISI Challenge Fund. The findings will help identify early risks and inform practical recommendations to strengthen safety, security, and resilience as AI capabilities keep evolving.
