Are you a WA food and beverage sector business interested in a STEM intern?

With end-of-financial-year activities behind us, now's the perfect time to tackle those projects that have been sitting on your to-do list. If you operate a Western Australia (WA)-based food and beverage sector business with a need for Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) talent, what better way to address those projects than having a talented, motivated STEM student join your team?

This is where the WA Food Industry Education Collaboration (WAFEC) program can help. We connect your business with WA's top STEM students to undertake business-led projects.

Students bring fresh perspectives to your business, contribute to business growth, and can take on those short-term projects you've been meaning to address.

How WAFEC supports your business

WAFEC facilitators are here to assist you every step of the way with one-on-one support:

  • Project scoping support – We help identify where STEM talent can impact your business and create a scope for a 200+ hour project opportunity for a STEM student.
  • Complete recruitment facilitation – Using our networks and university access, we promote your opportunity, then source, screen, and present you with a shortlist of high-calibre student candidates.
  • Your choice – You make the final decision on who joins your team.
  • On-going support – Regular check-ins and program team support help you maximise your STEM internship experience.
  • $2,500 payment per student on project completion.

Regional businesses can access an additional $2,500 per student for travel support when hosting remote interns.

The WAFEC program is delivered by CSIRO on behalf of the WA Government's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
