Bring real-world STEM to life in your school!

CSIRO is inviting educators to join STEM Professionals in Schools (SPS), a free national volunteer program that creates flexible, ongoing partnerships between educators and science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) professionals to provide engaging and relevant STEM learning experiences for students.

Through these partnerships, STEM professionals bring contemporary STEM knowledge into the classroom, sharing practical examples from their work to help students connect STEM learning with the real world, while educators build confidence in delivering STEM learning. Students benefit from authentic engagement with people working in STEM, helping them see the diverse range of careers and people behind STEM in Australia.

Through STEM Professionals in Schools, educators can:

  • access current STEM knowledge and careers, giving students authentic insights into how STEM is used beyond the classroom
  • shape the partnership around their needs, including curriculum priorities, student interests and the expertise they are seeking
  • be matched with a STEM professional, with CSIRO facilitating the introduction and helping establish the partnership
  • choose a flexible partnership model, with activities delivered in person, virtually or through a blended approach
  • support their professional learning through collaboration with a STEM expert, with activities ranging from classroom presentations and hands-on demonstrations, to mentoring or developing classroom units together.

The program is supported by the Australian Government Department of Education and delivered by CSIRO, Australia's national science agency.
