BRoll 2 Robotic ‘hand’ for coral farming CSIRO x CHARM

[Image appears of an aquarium with the clear glass set in grey moulded plastic. Inside the aquarium are two tables made of PVC piping. On the tables are a range of coral. There is a piece of coral being grasped from above by a metallic object that represents a hand. The hand moves the coral across to the left, above the other coral on a table]

Male: I haven’t given it to anyone, it’s mine. Even it’s two brothers, well they’re (ends abruptly)

[Image changes to show a close up of white racks that make up the top of the tables in the aquarium with coral on and in it. Some pieces of coral are small and set in white round plastic that look like plugs, they can sit safely in the open grid tops. The robotic hand now appears to be black and is coming from above to place a piece of coral in a plug into a table]

Male: Oh, that looks really good. Do you want to grab the controller and turn it off for me? Over there.

[Image changes as the robotic hand pauses with the plug in place and then releases the plug with the coral. The hand slowly raises up]

Male: Well done.

[Image changes as the light in the aquarium is turned off]

[Screen goes black briefly]

[Image changes as the robotic hand is on the bottom of the aquarium hovering over a grid pattern at the bottom with coral visible behind. There is an orange plastic object surrounding a light in the foreground]

[Image changes to zoom in on the close up between the claws of the robotic hand. There is a small white plug balanced on the grid. In the plug is a piece of coral. More pieces of corals in plugs are visible behind although they have been there longer as they are no longer white]

[Image changes as the shot zooms out to show the claw and the orange plastic covering the light is visible again]

Male: Yeah, that’s not bad.

[Image changes as the robotic hand moves to the right of screen and hovers over another piece of coral]

Male: You can pick that one up, pick that one up. Yeah, why not?

[Image changes as the hand moves in around the coral plug, camera zooms in. The hand raises the coral]

Male: Oh, so effortless.

Male: Precision.

[Image changes as camera moves to a longer shot from the right of the aquarium. The plastic grids are shown with the coral on top as the hand raises the coral plug]

[Image changes to show a man crouched to the left of the aquarium, next to a woman in a polo shirt and jeans seated at a keyboard in front of a black curtain and then screen goes black]

[Image changes to a shot of the aquarium with the robotic claw visible to far right of screen. To the left are large floor to ceiling windows that are uncovered. In front of those are two people crouched down. One is a man in a black t-shirt, shorts and running shoes with a hat and glasses. Next to him is a woman in a navy and light blue polo, light blue jeans and white sneakers with her hair tied up. She has a keyboard balanced on her lap and is using it to control the robotic hand’s movements]

[Image changes as the camera pans and zooms on the robotic hand over a small plastic grid that has a few coral plugs on it. The hand grasps one of the plugs]

Male: Oh! How is it?

Male: It’s only half grasped it but it’s fine.

[Image changes as the robotic hand raises the coral plug from the plastic grid and moves it to the left]

Male: That’s why I really like the finger design, even if it’s slightly off it still works.

[Image changes as the robotic hand hovers over one cell of the plastic grid and then inserts the plug and releases it so it drops in firmly]

Male: Looks pretty good to me.

Male: Nice! Success.

[Image changes as the camera pans from the robotic hand to the two people crouched next to the aquarium. They are both smiling]

[Image pans back to the coral plug]

Male: She takes care of her coral.

[Image changes as screen goes black and then opens on an eye level shot showing two aquariums side by side. The robotic hand is moving overhead from one to the other while grasping a coral plug. Behind these are black floor to ceiling curtains. The woman who was previously in shot is visible, watching the hand move and smiling]

Male: It’s done a leap.

Male: Back in the safe landing zone.

[Image changes as camera zooms in and out on the hand and coral plug as it approaches the water]

Male: Who’s the daredevil? Evil Knievil. That’s what this coral is.
