CSIRO and Main Sequence are proud to be supporting SXSW Sydney in October

Connecting the world’s most awe-inspiring thinkers, creators and innovators, SXSW Sydney will showcase diverse topics, people and free-roaming ideas across music, screen, gaming, technology, innovation and culture over seven days in October.

CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, is joining SXSW Festival to showcase our people, programs, innovation and technology.

Together with our deep tech investment fund, Main Sequence, we are sponsoring ‘Track 2050’ at the SXSW conference.

Track 2050 focuses on long-range, big picture thinking, with topics ranging from nanotech breakthroughs and interplanetary expeditions to life-extension research and novel applications of scientific discoveries.

Monday 16 – Thursday 19 October

2050 Lounge, ICC Sydney, 10.00am-5.00pm
CSIRO and Main Sequence are hosting the 2050 Lounge space throughout the week. Come along and say hi and learn more about our work, network, charge your phone, attend a workshop, hold a meeting or relax during the festival.

Wednesday 18 – Saturday 21 October 

Energise your Enterprise, Tech and Innovation Expo, ICC Sydney, 10.00am-5.00pm

Booth featuring CSIRO’s

Innovators in augmented & virtual reality meet-up, 12.30-1.30pm
Meet a community of innovators creating exciting, new applications for mixed reality. Hosted by two senior scientists from CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency and innovation catalyst, this Meet Up kicks off with a short ‘lightning talk’ session, in which 10 presenters have 1 minute each to pitch their innovation.

Start-up Village, ICC Sydney, 10am-5pm
CSIRO’s Company Creation team will showcase four ‘ready for market’ CSIRO opportunities including Eclipse, Evolve and Magic Meat Powder. 

CSIRO’s Investment team will showcase various portfolio companies and up to seven ON alumni projects across the themes of energy, manufacturing, health and biosecurity and AI/Digitech.

Hello 2050, what’s on the menu?, 2.30 – 3.30pm 
Food is fundamental but we have some pretty big challenges that lay ahead. This panel will take you on a journey into the future of food in an entertaining and unexpected way. Join Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, and Asia Pacific’s largest dedicated deep tech fund, Main Sequence, to unlock the impact of how we produce, consume and behave to meet the UN’s ambition of delivering more sustainable, productive and resilient agricultural and food systems. Hosted by Rove McManus, Australian comedian and television host. Panelists include Professor Michelle Colgrave FTSE, CSIRO Agriculture & Food – Deputy Director (Impact) Dr Sinead Golley, CSIRO Behavioural Scientist. Oli Leimbach of Lime Cordiale, Musician & Entrepreneur. CSIRO and Main Sequence portfolio companies v2 Food and Nourish will be demonstrating products on stage during the event.

This workshop featuring CSIRO’s Monika Szabo and Richard Spriggs will gather together government business support functions and connect people with programs that will support growth and acceleration of their business

Thursday 19 October 

2050 Workshop - The Next Blur: how to be ready for a world of accelerating change, 2.00 – 3.00pm
How do venture capital and business get ready for tomorrow? These days, the world changes so fast, it is hard to keep up. We plan for futures that don't eventuate because we expect them to look much like today. By the time we get there, the world has changed. Futurist, Ross Dawson and venture capitalist, Phil Morle will host a conversation about the future - on why we need to imagine different versions of what is to come so that we can be be ready to act. For business leaders and startup founders who want the wind in their backs come along to this intimate session to get some practical tips.
