About the placement

This internship is with Planet Protector and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.
The role focuses on technical research, market development, and sustainability initiatives for the packaging product WOOLPACK, thermal insulation product JEANIUS, and expanding portfolio of fibre-based innovations.

You will work closely with the sustainability and product teams and gain exposure to not only technical aspects of sustainability research but also the commercialisation side. Duties will include sustainability research into fibre-based materials and circular economy solutions, data collection and analysis- including in relation to product performance and sustainability materials, researching industry trends, and translation of technical information into reports and presentations.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: March/early April 2026
  • Working arrangement: Part time 2-3 days per week for 200 hours on a fixed term contract
  • Remuneration: $25/hour on a temporary contract with Planet Protector
  • Location: Silverwater, NSW, 2128

Desired capabilities

  • The placement is open to undergraduate students studying a broad range of degrees such as sustainable development, engineering, design, architecture, environmental sustainability or other related degrees.
  • Technical knowledge of sustainability frameworks, lifecycle thinking, or environmental performance metrics
  • Knowledge or interest in the built environment, construction materials, or relevant standards (e.g., NCC)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate technical information into clear insights
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work autonomously and on tasks with high ambiguity.
  • Adaptable, flexible and eager to learn. Being in a startup means that no two days are the same!

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate qualification.
