About the placement
This internship is with Murrumbidgee Irrigation and is facilitated by the CSIRO's Generation STEM Links program.
As an intern working at Murrumbidgee Irrigation, you'll gain hands-on, end-to-end exposure and experience across the full lifecycle of infrastructure assets, including planning, design, operation, maintenance, construction, and renewal.
You'll work alongside an experienced team, supporting both field and office-based tasks. Field work may include asset condition assessments, site planning, and completing safety and environmental checklists. In the office, you'll contribute to drafting in AutoCAD, transitioning designs into 3D using Civil 3D, and conducting theoretical calculations for pipelines and open channel flow systems.
This is a valuable opportunity to apply your studies in a practical setting, build technical and professional skills, and gain insight into real-world infrastructure projects that shape communities.
Work arrangements
- Start date: Summer, 2025
- Working arrangement: Full time for at least 6 weeks on a fixed term contract, with the possibility for further employment for the right candidate. Please note, there is a short break over the Christmas period.
- Remuneration: $31.19/hour plus super on a temporary contract with Murrumbidgee Irrigation.
- Location: Griffith, NSW
- Accommodation: Murrumbidgee Irrigation will assist with accommodation on-site (no cost to student) if required for the duration of the internship.
Desired capabilities
- Studying either civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering or other relevant qualifications.
- Experience with report writing.
- Good written and verbal communication
- Prior field work experience beneficial
- Mathematical and analytical skills
- Familiarity with Civil 3D and AutoCAD
Requirements
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate or TAFE qualification.
- Valid driver's licence
- NSW white card
- You will be working both in an office environment and out in the field. You may need to complete a basic health screen
