About the placement

This internship is with PlasmaLeap Technologies and is facilitated by the CSIRO's Generation STEM Links program.

PlasmaLeap Technologies is building a modular plasma reactor system designed to demonstrate scalable, real-world applications of non-thermal plasma technology. This internship provides the opportunity to work alongside a team of engineers to develop solutions for complex engineering problems. The project involves assembling, testing, and refining an eight-reactor module, integrating components such as power delivery, gas flow, thermal management, and system control. Interns will be involved in a range of engineering and prototyping activities depending on their strengths and interests and these could include, CAD design and revisions, hands-on assembly, experimental setup, data acquisition, troubleshooting, and contributing to safety and documentation processes.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: July, 2025
  • Working arrangement: 2-3 days per week for 200 hours on a fixed term contract. The company has a strong commitment to building its team, so this opportunity comes with a strong possibility of further employment for the right candidate.
  • Remuneration: $32/hour + super on a fixed term Part time/Casual contract with PlasmaLeap Technologies
  • Location: Marrickville, NSW
  • Positions: 3

Desired capabilities

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate engineering program (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related fields).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for hands-on work and learning in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Comfortable working in a lab or workshop environment with physical systems; familiarity with 3D printing or additive manufacturing is a bonus
  • Able to think practically and solve problems independently or as part of a team
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., CFD, FEA, COMSOL) and proficiency in Python or LabVIEW would be a bonus but not essential.
  • Lab experience is beneficial but not essential

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate or TAFE qualification.
