About the placement

This NSW Skills for Net Zero internship is with Novecom. The initiative is proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered by CSIRO.

This internship is with Novecom, part of the Emergent Group – a collective of businesses delivering engineering, environmental, and technology solutions that help clients transition to a low-carbon future. Emergent Group companies, including Advitech, Novecom, Acubis, and Emergex Manufacturing, work across renewable energy, mining, healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and minimise climate impact.

Despite these significant contributions, many staff are unaware of the environmental and emissions reduction benefits of our work. This internship will actively support Emergent Group’s Net Zero and decarbonisation strategy by developing internal communication initiatives that showcase how our technologies and services enable clients to achieve sustainability goals.

Key activities include:

  • Research sustainability strategies offered by Novecom and sister companies (e.g., energy audits, electrification pathways, onsite renewables, demand management, measurement & verification) and explore sector applications.
  • Develop engaging content to educate employees on sustainability services (ESG consulting, energy efficiency, energy transformation).
  • Create internal campaigns that inspire collaboration and showcase real-world decarbonisation opportunities.
  • Research and integrate best practice in sustainability communications aligned with Net Zero goals.
  • Use digital platforms (e.g., SharePoint) to streamline resources and improve knowledge sharing across the group.
  • Build simple case studies/templates that quantify impacts (e.g., emissions avoided, energy saved) to support internal storytelling and client engagement.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: Late February (flexible)
  • Working arrangement: Part-time for 200 hours
  • Remuneration: $25 per hour plus superannuation
  • Location: Mayfield West, NSW (Hybrid working options available)

Desired capabilities

  • Currently studying Communications, Marketing, Media, IT, or a related discipline.
  • Skills or experience in multimedia content creation.

  • Understanding of effective employee communication principles.
  • Ability to research latest trends in sustainability and internal communications.
  • Familiarity with communication tools and platforms, including MS SharePoint.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Applicants must:
