About the placement
This NSW Skills for Net Zero internship is with Novecom. The initiative is proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered by CSIRO.
This internship is with Novecom, part of the Emergent Group – a collective of businesses delivering engineering, environmental, and technology solutions that help clients transition to a low-carbon future. Emergent Group companies, including Advitech, Novecom, Acubis, and Emergex Manufacturing, work across renewable energy, mining, healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and minimise climate impact.
Novecom builds Internet of Things (IoT) systems that are used to measure environmental parameters such as sunlight, dust, noise and wind speed. These are used in renewable energy projects to predict the output of renewable energy generators and minimise the impact of construction or operation on local communities and ecology. Minimising the impact of noise from renewable energy projects is particularly important, and Novecom's noise monitoring systems are used to measure and manage noise outputs. Noise monitoring is also used for measuring the population of bats near a wind farm, which can be estimated through ultrasonic noise measurements.
Key activities include:
- assist in the development of new noise microphones for Novecom's IoT system
- electronics design, hardware (enclosure) design, and fabrication of prototype units
Work arrangements
- Start date: July 2026
- Working arrangement: Part-time for 200 hours
- Remuneration: $26.44 per hour plus superannuation
- Location: in person, Mayfield West, NSW
Desired capabilities
- Studying electrical/electronics/mechatronics engineering.
- Strong interest in sustainability and Net Zero initiatives.
- Willingness to learn, contribute ideas and take ownership of defined workstreams within a collaborative team environment.
Applicants must:
- Be in their penultimate or final year of study in a relevant qualification at Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor, or Honours level, with a current credit-average or higher
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident currently residing in New South Wales and able to enter an employment contract
- Meet general selection criteria at the application stage, including communication skills, aptitude, and attitude
- Not be an existing employee or intern (paid or unpaid) of the host organisation they are applying to
- Be willing to provide feedback on their placement experience
