About the placement
This NSW Skills for Net Zero internship is with Extraterrestrial Power Pty Ltd. The initiative is proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered by CSIRO.
As an intern working at Extraterrestrial Power, you will be tasked with the project to streamline production of solar panels for space applications.
There are two internship opportunities.
Work arrangements
- Start date: May 2026
- Working arrangement: Full time for 200 hours
- Remuneration: $25.00 per hour plus superannuation
- Location: Michael Crouch Innovation Centre (MCIC) Level G, Hilmer Building (E10) Union Rd, UNSW Sydney Kensington NSW 2033
Desired capabilities
- UNSW student of Mechanical and/or Electrical engineering background
- Willingness to learn and attitude to own the project
- Practical engineering experience aligned to mechanical and/or electrical lab experience, prototyping, testing and working with hardware
- Physically able to move the project to different locations
- Interest and/or experience in Solar PV manufacturing
- Work within the HSE and risk requirements of the work environment
Applicants must
- Be in their penultimate or final year of study in a relevant qualification at Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor, or Honours level, with a current credit-average or higher
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident currently residing in New South Wales and able to enter an employment contract
- Meet general selection criteria at the application stage, including communication skills, aptitude, and attitude
- Not be an existing employee or intern (paid or unpaid) of the host organisation they are applying to
- Be willing to provide feedback on their placement experience
About the host workplace
Extraterrestrial Power (ETP) is a Sydney-based company developing highly efficient, mass-manufacturable, and radiation-tolerant solar cells designed to drastically reduce the cost of power in space. Extraterrestrial Power leverages specialised expertise in solar cell technology research and development, proficiency in the manufacturing of silicon space solar cells, and capability in the manufacturing of modules optimised for space applications – including satellite constellations and space-based systems designed to beam solar energy to Earth.
This work reduces emissions by enabling more renewable energy and by making transferable manufacturing improvements to support a more efficient solar deployment.
