About the placement

This NSW Skills for Net Zero internship is with BT Imaging Pty Ltd. The initiative is proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered by CSIRO.

As an intern working at BT Imaging Pty Ltd, you will gain exposure to product development lifecycle, including design, prototyping, testing, documentation and productization for equipment and electrical systems used in renewable energy manufacturing. You will also learn about engineering component selection, including evaluating performance, cost, supply chain and carbon footprint considerations.

There are two positions.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: Beginning of October, 2026
  • Working arrangement: Full time for 200 hours on a fixed contract
  • Remuneration: $26.44 per hour plus superannuation on a temporary contract with BT Imaging Pty Ltd
  • Location: in person internship - Unit 26, 198-222 Young Street, Waterloo, NSW 2017

Desired capabilities

  • Studying Engineering – electrical/electronics, mechatronics, industrial/manufacturing preferred, although other fields of engineering with suitable match to skills will also be considered
  • Previous experience with Electrical CAD software (e.g. Solidworks Electrical), electrical schematic design (one-line and multi-line schematics), electrical enclosure layout (2D and 3D), electrical systems and electrical component selection.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design fundamentals, LV systems, AC/DC systems and a keen interest in hands-on problem solving in the renewable energy or Industry 4.0 domain
  • Strong understanding/keen interest in Instrumentation / Automation systems or PLC/SCADA systems
  • Ability to manage tasks independently with guidance
  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills

Applicants must:

  • Be in their penultimate or final year of study in a relevant qualification at Bachelor, or Honours level, with a current credit-average or higher
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident currently residing in New South Wales and able to enter an employment contract
  • Meet general selection criteria at the application stage, including communication skills, aptitude, and attitude
  • Not be an existing employee or intern (paid or unpaid) of the host organisation they are applying to
  • Be willing to provide feedback on their placement experience
