About the program

There is a lack of evidence explaining what, how and why students follow and stay in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) learning or career pathways.

Trellis is a digital tool that will use insights from students to strengthen the evidence base and assist those in STEM education to create more impactful experiences for students.

The challenge

Understanding why students in Australia choose to participate and stay in STEM is complex. A mix of factors can shape a student's interest in STEM, and their influence can change over time.

There is an opportunity to better engage with Australian students to help us understand issues from the students' perspective.

The solution

This project will shed light on the lived experience of students as they progress through STEM education and career pathways. Beginning in 2025, it aims to capture the full range of student perspectives relating to STEM career outcomes and provide accessible insights into how they are changing over time (and why).

This project will measure changes in attitudes, skills, and aspirations of students across time, experiences, and education systems.

The students' insights can empower STEM program designers and decision makers to more effectively evaluate and improve the programs they fund, design, and run.
