The Academy will be working with cohorts of young Indigenous women from Year 8 through to University.

Students will come from all over Australia. The program is place-based and will be rolled-out in communities across the country. New regions will come online each year, to reach the target of 600 participants by 2023.

Eligibility criteria

  • Students must be Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
  • Students must be female or female-identifying.
  • Students must be passing English, Maths and Science at school.

Year 8 recruitment

  • Northern Territory
  • West Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba
  • Central NSW

  • 2019 - Cairns and the Torres Strait, Townsville and Palm Island
  • 2020 - Blacktown and Penrith, Central Coast NSW, Perth, WA and remote regions
  • 2021 - Western Plains, NSW, Brisbane and west surrounds (Toowoomba, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley), Darwin and NT/North WA (the Kimberley) and remote regions
  • 2022 - Newcastle, Cessnock, Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie in NSW, Brisbane and north surrounds (Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast), Bendigo/Ballarat, Vic and Tasmania and remote regions
  • 2023 - Illawarra and Campbelltown, NSW, ACT, Brisbane and south surrounds (Redland, Gold Coast, Logan) and Port Augusta, SA and remote areas

  • Year 8: 100 students

2023 is the last year for recruitment. The following years will be focussed on supporting participants from high school through to university.
