This dataset contains values calculated from Australian Bureau of Statistics Census data. It lists the Gini coefficient for Australian local government areas, which is an indicator of how evenly incomes are distributed amongst a given population. The dataset contains calculated Gini coefficients for 2001 and 2011.

The Income Inequality in Australian Regions Educational Dataset provides an opportunity for students to explore income inequality in different areas of the country and consider some of the factors that contribute to high or low income inequality. It also provides an opportunity for students to combine multiple datasets to get a broader picture of the story the data is telling. This dataset is aimed at students in Years 7-10.
