About the placement
This internship is with Concept Paints and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.
This internship will be focused on Right first time (RFT) which is a process used to ensure that the first test of any manufactured batch meets quality standards whilst also reducing waste and improving quality.
This role gives you the chance to utilise your knowledge in both data analysis and organic chemistry within a lab setting. You will be tasked with understanding and researching how products are manufactured and will collaborate with teams to refine processes, reduce waste, and improve quality control. Additionally, you’ll gain exposure to statistical process control methods, ensuring that improvements are measurable and effective in optimising the overall manufacturing process.
This role is a great way to gain exposure to quality control, chemistry and practical hands-on lab skills.
Work arrangements
- Start date: June/July preferrable
- Working arrangement: 2-3 days per week on a fixed term contract (200 hours)
- Remuneration: $26.70/hour on a temporary contract with Concept Paints.
- Location: St Mary’s, NSW
- Positions Available: 2
Desired capabilities
- Good understanding of Chemistry preferably organic chemistry
- Previous experience working in a chemistry laboratory is desired but not essential
- Strong aptitude for mathematics and data‑driven problem solving
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data recording and analysis
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and take initiative in a practical work environment
Requirements
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate qualification
- Able to stand for long extensive periods of time
