About the placement

As an intern working at Emergent Group, the student will be tasked with investigating alternative manufacturing solutions to build enclosures for a new hospital device the company has developed. The design of the device is already complete; the focus of the project will be on identifying and evaluating fabrication techniques such as injection moulding, 3D printing, or other suitable manufacturing methods.

The student will conduct research into these manufacturing processes, engage with potential suppliers, and may be involved in managing trial production runs. This hands-on project will provide valuable experience in translating product design into scalable manufacturing solutions.

  • Working arrangement: Part-time for 200 hours
  • Remuneration: $31.25 on a casual contract with Emergent Group
  • Location: Mayfield West, Newcastle, NSW (some remote work may be accommodated)

Desired capabilities

  • A background in industrial design, mechanical engineering, or mechatronics engineering or similar
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and fabrication techniques such as 3D printing, injection moulding, or CNC machining.

  • Analytical thinking and research abilities – capable of evaluating options, solving problems, and making informed decisions.
