About the placement

This internship is with Mandolé Orchard and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program. It is a hands-on, Quality Assurance-focused role supporting the development and commercialisation of a new almond yogurt product.

As a food science intern with this family-run business, you will work closely with the Production Team throughout the full product development cycle, with responsibilities including:

  • Assisting with product formulation, lab-scale trials, and production scale-up
  • Supporting quality assurance through microbiological testing, shelf-life trials, and compliance checks
  • Preparing product documentation, including nutritional information, labelling, and packaging requirements
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and suppliers to meet technical and commercial objectives
  • Maintaining quality and food safety systems, and investigating product issues to recommend improvements
  • Organising and conducting sensory testing sessions for product evaluation

Work arrangements

  • Start date: Flexible, ideally ASAP.
  • Working arrangement: Full time or Part time for 200 hours, with the possibility for further employment for the right candidate
  • Remuneration: $25/hour plus super on a temporary contract with Mandolé Orchard
  • Location: Griffith, NSW

Desired capabilities

  • In the final or penultimate year of tertiary study in Food Science or a related field
  • Exposure to a beverage or liquid food manufacturing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
  • A solution-oriented mindset with the ability to identify and act on opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An enthusiastic and passionate approach to learning and innovation
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities
  • Solid understanding of FSANZ regulations and the ability to interpret the Food Standards Code as it applies to various products

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate or TAFE qualification.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
