About the placement
This 8 week- fixed term winter internship with North Construction & Building provides structured learning and exposure to project and site activities and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.
North Construction and Building offers an exciting opportunity to work with one of the most trusted building and construction firms in the Central Coast and Hunter region.
Rotating across head office and project site locations on the Central Coast and Newcastle, you will observe, assist and contribute to activities in the built environment and construction industry. Activities may range from daily project team activities, subcontractor trade communications, site visits and safety inspections/audits, building methodologies, referring to AS-NZ building codes and standards, project programmes, reading and interpreting plans, structural and engineering requirements, creation and negotiation of subcontract agreements, using building software’s and technologies, engagements with suppliers and assisting with processes through approvals,” boots on ground” site activities, WHS practices and protocols, and other activities related to the successful completion of a construction project. This opportunity will allow you to gather insight into where a career in construction can take you, a taste of what it is really like to work with a commercial builder, and gain experience working in a collaborative environment.
Work arrangements
- Start date: 22nd June 2026
- Working arrangement: 8-week - 5days per week, fixed term contract finishing 14 August 2026 Office hours 8:00am to 5:00pm & Site hours 7:00am to 3:30pm
- Remuneration: Clerk Award Rate + Super on a temporary contract with North Construction & Building
- Location: rotations across Newcastle, Tuggerah and Central Coast sites
Desired capabilities
- First or second year students of the Building Construction Management Degree (Students in other year groups are also encouraged to apply)
- Well-developed numeracy and literacy skills
- A team player with strong work ethic
- High organisation skills and the ability to work under pressure
Requirements
- Be available to commit to the complete program- 5 days per week for 8 weeks
- Have an industry white card (or in process of obtaining)
- An NSW/QLD Drivers Licence and own transport
- Academic record showing Credit/other average
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Must be available to attend interview on the 5th June 2026 if shortlisted.
Please note that those successfully shortlisted may be asked to provide their Academic transcript including their High School report.
