About the placement
This NSW Skills for Net Zero internship is with Manildra Group, proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered by CSIRO.
The internship is hosted by Manildra Group, a leading agribusiness and advanced food manufacturer committed to a net zero future. As an intern, you’ll be working closely with the Environment & Sustainability Lead, and gain exposure to a range of impactful sustainability initiatives. You may engage with or observe:
- Global ESG Benchmarking: Research project conducting a peer-based ESG benchmarking analysis, comparing the company’s performance to global competitors.
- Scope 3 Accounting & Product Carbon Footprint Development: Supporting the calculation of Scope 3 emissions and product-level carbon footprints to enhance reporting and transparency.
- ARENA-Funded Heat Recovery Project: Participation in planning stages of Australia’s largest MVR Heat Recovery Project, partially funded through ARENA. Includes opportunities to observe meetings, contribute to documentation, and gain project development insight.
- GreenPower Renewable Gas Certification: Support biogas certification under the NSW GreenPower scheme, helping position the company as a leading certified Renewable Gas producer in Australia, with potential for early-stage analysis of environmental and commercial benefits.
- Safeguard Mechanism Compliance: Support internal tracking and analysis to meet the federal Safeguard Mechanism. Opportunity to contribute to reporting, strategy alignment, and future planning documents
This internship offers practical experience in carbon accounting, decarbonisation projects, ESG benchmarking, and stakeholder collaboration within a leading agribusiness committed to sustainability.
Work arrangements
- Start date: October 2025
- Working arrangement: Part-time for 200 hours
- Remuneration: Part-time $25 per hour plus superannuation
- Location: Flexible work arrangements from home and Gladesville, with preferred weekly visits to the South Coast Bomaderry site (flexible)
Desired Capabilities
- Currently studying Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, with a strong interest in sustainability and decarbonisation.
- Demonstrated numerical aptitude, with either formal accounting skills or confidence working with data and quantitative analysis.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data handling, modelling, and reporting.
- Background or keen interest in environmental systems, carbon accounting, or energy efficiency.
- Demonstrates initiative and a proactive mindset, with the ability to work independently and contribute meaningfully to team-based projects
Applicants must:
- Be in their penultimate or final year of study in a relevant qualification at Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor, or Honours level, with a current credit-average or higher
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident currently residing in New South Wales and able to enter an employment contract
- Meet general selection criteria at the application stage, including communication skills, aptitude, and attitude
- Not be an existing employee or intern (paid or unpaid) of the host organisation they are applying to
- Be willing to provide feedback on their placement experience
