Catch the Carbon

Nature of the inquiry problem Students will investigate greenhouse gases and climate change. They will explore new technologies in carbon capture and storage and ways greenhouse gases are being mitigated.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • learn about climate change and greenhouse gases
  • understand the basics of enhanced greenhouse effect and key gases involved
  • learn about CSIRO's Carbon and Methane capture technology
  • learn about Carbon capture technology; biocells; storage and other technologies form other research groups
  • learn about different ways Carbon can be captured
Student Learning Outcomes*

At the end of the 2 week lesson sequence students will:

  •  understand what climate change is and the greenhouse gases involved
  • recall the basics of the greenhouse effect and key gases involved
  • appreciate the research by CSIRO and other research groups into Carbon and Methane capture and storage
  • recall different ways Carbon can be captured
  • communicate how Carbon capture will reverse climate change through an extended writing piece

Workbook, task sheet research and extended writing piece (collaborative or individual)

Informal, formative assessment is built into the lessons.
