This internship is with Ryan's Quality Meats and is facilitated by the CSIRO WA Food Industry Education Collaboration program (WAFEC). If you are looking for an internship opportunity where you can contribute to technology enablement, digitisation and workflow optimisation in a fast-moving consumer goods manufacturing line, this may be the right opportunity for you!

Ryan Quality Meats are looking for an intern with skills in process engineering, mapping, and digital tracking technology to support an upgrade of their manufacturing line for meat and processed meat products. Throughout this project the successful intern will work with the Buying Production Manager to map the end-to-end manufacturing process, support the trial of tracking technology within the manufacturing and warehouse line, and identify issues in the implementation of this technology. Lastly, the intern will use their research skills to identify new technologies which could improve be used to improve operational efficiency.

The successful intern will leverage their problem-solving ability and creative mindset to assist the Buying Production Manager in delivering organisational improvement.

Work arrangements

Start date: July

Working arrangement: Part time for 200 hours on a fixed term contract

Remuneration: $25 per hour plus super on a temporary contract with Ryan's Quality Meats

Location: Combination of on-site at their Jandakot and Bunbury outlets. Transport can be provided by the employer if travelling periodically from Perth to Davenport.

Desired capabilities

  • High-level understanding of process workflows, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Creative thinker with skills in problem solving
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to undertake process mapping
  • Ability to undertake desktop research with minimal direction
  • Knowledge of digital tracking technology such as barcode scanning, radio frequency identification (RFID), and/or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands
  • Ability to work independently, and collaborate as part of a team
  • Previous experience in a processing or manufacturing environment will be looked on favourably

Requirements

  • Must be currently living in Western Australia
  • Must be enrolled in a relevant University STEM qualification - process, communications or mechatronic engineering preferred
  • Perth-based candidates must be able to travel to undertake a day trip to the regional work location periodically. Transport can be provided by the employer for return Perth to Bunbury day trips.
