About the placement

This internship is with Gourmania and is facilitated by the CSIRO WA Food Industry Education Collaboration Program (WAFEC). If you are looking for an exciting opportunity with a diverse food manufacturer and the possibility of further employment, this internship may be for you!

Gourmania are a leading producer and distributor of premium food products and seeking an intern to support their Quality Control (QC) team. Within this internship the successful candidate will leverage their passion for QC and obtain experience in a wide variety of quality assurance activities. A snapshot of some of those activities include:

  • Conducting daily pre/post operational factory checks
  • Performing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) inspections
  • Assisting with the internal microbiological testing regime
  • Collecting samples for quality and safety testing
  • Supporting traceability record maintenance
  • Performing monthly calibration of instruments and equipment

The successful candidate will gain invaluable practical experience, whilst contributing to delivering
high-quality food products and team goals.

Work arrangements

Start date: October

Working arrangement: 200 hours on a temporary contract. Hours per week are flexible to accommodate study commitments but must be completed within business hours (8am to 4pm Monday to Friday).

Renumeration: $25 per hour plus super on a temporary contract with Gourmania

Location: 13 Wicks Street, Bayswater, WA

Desired capabilities

  • Passion for quality assurance
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Strong communicator
  • Attention to detail, particularly when reviewing written documents
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
  • Knowledge of common QC tests required in a food environment
  • Prior knowledge of Product Specification, Documentation, Labelling and Country of origin for food products will be looked on favourably
  • Prior experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment will be looked on favourably

Requirements

  • Must be currently living in Western Australia
  • Must be enrolled in a relevant Food Science or Technology University qualification
  • Must be able to provide own transport to and from the work location
  • International candidates must have a visa which allows for employment

Gourmania is a SQF certified Company and has a well-established relationship with the WA Government; being one of the largest contracted suppliers of pre-prepared food to WA public hospitals.

Gourmania produces a wide variety of food products by partnering with several food service providers/distributors in Australia and internationally. The company has forged a strong network of distribution partners with its products now in countries including Dubai, Hong Kong, Japan, the Maldives, Mauritius, New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand.
