InterGrain is one of Australia's leading cereal breeders and is globally recognised for delivering exceptionally high-quality malting barleys and udon wheats. InterGrain are looking for a cereal technician intern to support an innovative project to increase our understanding of oats and their proteins for food and beverage applications. Working with the Cereal Chemist, the cereal technician intern will operate in the laboratory, undertaking activities such as:
- Sample preparation for analysis
- Protein isolation and extraction
- Testing functional oat properties
- Following testing workflows and safety procedures
- Other general laboratory work as required
The successful candidate will gain invaluable practical laboratory experience, whilst contributing to building new knowledge in oats and oat products.
Work arrangements
Start date: November / December
Working arrangement: 200 hours on a casual contract
Renumeration: $31.19 plus super on a casual contract
Location: 19 Ambitious Link, Bibra Lake, WA 6163
Hours: Part-time or Full-time but must be able to work within standard business operating hours (9am to 5pm AWST, Monday to Friday)
Desired capabilities
- Passion for innovation and willingness to learn new skills
- Experience in a laboratory setting with common laboratory equipment
- Familiarity with laboratory processes and techniques, e.g. calibration, pipetting
- Commitment to health and safety in the workplace
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail and the ability to trouble shoot
- Familiarity with MS Excel and record keeping
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
Requirements
- Must be currently living in Western Australia
- Must be enrolled in a relevant Chemistry or Food Science university qualification. Students who completed their studies at end of Semester 2, 2025 are also eligible to apply.
- Must be able to organise own travel to and from work site location
- Must be able to be legally employed within Australia
- Must be physically fit and able for work
