About the placement

This internship is with Gourmania and is facilitated by the CSIRO WA Food Industry Education Collaboration Program (WAFEC).

Gourmania is a WA-owned food manufacturing company seeking an intern to support their Quality Assurance operations. The Quality Assurance intern will gain hands-on exposure to food manufacturing, quality systems, and food safety practices in a commercial production environment.

This role is designed for students nearing graduation who are looking to build a career in Quality Assurance, Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or Food R&D. The role provides practical experience supporting day-to-day Quality Assurance operations within a fast-paced food manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily QA and food safety checks across production areas
  • Support pre-operational, post-operational, and GMP inspections
  • Monitor product quality for raw materials, in-process, and finished goods
  • Assist with retention sampling and associated documentation
  • Support environmental monitoring activities (swabbing and sample collection)
  • Assist with laboratory sample coordination and result tracking
  • Support temperature monitoring and basic calibration checks
  • Help review production and traceability records
  • Assist with corrective action follow-ups under supervision
  • Maintain QA documentation and compliance records

What we are looking for

  • Candidates nearing completion of studies in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or related fields
  • Strong interest in food manufacturing, Quality Assurance systems, and food safety
  • Eagerness to learn and build a career in the food industry
  • Good attention to detail and willingness to follow procedures
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Basic understanding of HACCP/GMP principles is an advantage

Work arrangements

  • Start date: July
  • Working arrangement: 200 hours on a temporary contract. Hours per week are flexible to accommodate study commitments but must be completed within business hours (8am to 4pm Monday to Friday).
  • Renumeration: $26.44 per hour plus super on a temporary contract with Gourmania
  • Location: 13 Wicks Street, Bayswater, WA

Requirements

  • Must be currently living in Western Australia
  • Must be completing your final year in a relevant Food Science or Technology University qualification
  • Must be able to provide own transport to and from the work location
  • International candidates must have a visa which allows for employment
