ACIL Allen were commissioned by CSIRO to undertake an independent review of the impact and value delivered to the economy and the innovation system by investment in CSIRO. This review represents an update of the assessment undertaken in 2014. The benefits delivered across 28 case studies show an estimated present value three times the total annual CSIRO budget and more than four times the funding provided by the Australian Government. Extrapolating across all of CSIRO, the full research portfolio is providing an estimated return of over 5:1.
