It’s an exciting time and there are a number of things you’ll need to be aware of before you depart. These matters are serious and can have significant consequences for your health, wellbeing, safety and that of the people around you, before, during and after your voyage.

A lot of hard work, time, energy and resources have gone into the research voyage you’re about to undertake. This includes success through a competitive applications process by the science team to determine the scientific excellence and national benefit of the application.

For many of these science teams the voyage represents years of planning and a multimillion dollar investment by the Marine National Facility.

It’s critical you understand your role in making sure you are physically and emotionally equipped to handle the rigours of the voyage.

You will also be asked to nominate a next of kin. This can be a partner, family member, or close friend whose role will be to support you before, during and after your voyage. They’ll be sent a separate video as well to make sure they understand the decision you’re making. So without further ado, let’s start.
