  1. Register at www.csiro.au/wildwatch
  2. Download the iNaturalist app and join the CSIRO Wild Watch project
  3. During National Science Week, upload different observations to the CSIRO Wild Watch project.

How to win

All participants who submit observations to the CSIRO Wild Watch project through iNaturalist will be in the running to win a prize packs. Prize packs will be awarded to:

  • The top 10 schools or community groups who submit the most number of observations to the CSIRO Wild Watch project through the iNaturalist app, during National Science Week will be eligible to receive a $500 voucher to Modern Teaching Aid and CSIRO Publishing titles Wild Collections and AmAZed.
  • The top 10 individuals (18 years or over) who submit the most number of observations to the CSIRO Wild Watch project through the iNaturalist app, during National Science Week will be eligible to receive a CSIRO prize pack including a CSIRO With STEM You Can t-shirt and copies of CSIRO Publishing titles Wild Collections and AmAZed.

The Competition period commences at 12:00am AEST on Saturday 9 August 2025 and closes 7:00pm Monday 18 August 2025. Winners will be contacted through direct message on iNaturalist.

Terms and conditions

  1. The promoter is the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (“CSIRO”) (ABN 41 687 119 230), Clunies Ross Street, Black Mountain, ACT, Australia.
  2. Each entry must be made in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. By entering the Competition, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Entries not submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions may be deemed ineligible. Information on how to enter and prize details form part of these Terms and Conditions.
  3. Entry to the competition is open to all Australian residents aged 18 years or over, schools or community groups. Employees, directors and officers of CSIRO or any person associated with the Competition, or any organisation or individual associated with the provision of the prize(s) are not eligible to enter.
  4. One entry per individual entrant or per community group or school. Multiple entries are not permitted.
  5. To enter the Competition, entry must submit observations to the CSIRO Wild Watch project through iNaturalist app.
  6. There will be 20 prizes in total to be won:
     A. The top 10 schools or community groups who submit the most number of observations to the CSIRO Wild Watch project through the iNaturalist app, during Competition Period will be eligible to receive a AU $500 voucher to Modern Teaching Aid and CSIRO Publishing titles Wild Collections and AmAZed.
    B. The top 10 individuals who submit the most number of observations to the CSIRO Wild Watch project through the iNaturalist app, during the Competition Period will be eligible to receive a CSIRO prize pack including a CSIRO With STEM You Can t-shirt and copies of CSIRO Publishing titles Wild Collections and AmAZed.
  7. The Competition period commences at 12:00am AEST on Saturday 9 August 2025 and closes 7:00pm Monday 18 August 2025 (“Competition Period”).
  8. Any entry received by CSIRO before or after the Competition Period may be ineligible for entry and no responsibility will be accepted for lost, late or misdirected submissions.
  9. The winner will be notified within two business days from when the Competition closes, via iNaturalist app direct message. The winner will be announced on on CSIRO’s social media once the Competition closes. The winner agrees that CSIRO may use their name, image and likeness for publicity and promotional purposes, without compensation for use.
  10. The prize will be sent to the mailing address supplied by the winner by standard post after the announcement of the winner. The prize is not transferable or exchangeable or redeemable for cash. We will make reasonable efforts to ensure winners receive their prize. Where we are not able to deliver a prize despite making reasonable efforts to do so the prize will be reassigned.
  11. If there are any unclaimed or un-awarded prizes a second judging will be conducted following the same criteria on 1 September 2025 at the same time and place as the original judging. The new winner will be contacted by direct message on iNaturalist app within two business days. A prize will be deemed to be unclaimed if we have been unable to contact the prize winner through the contact details provided by 11.59 pm on 8 September 2025.
  12. Each entrant warrants all information provided in the entry is complete, accurate and true and does not breach the copyright or other intellectual property rights or privacy rights of any other person; they have all necessary rights and licences to grant the rights and licenses set out in these Terms and Conditions and the exercise of the rights and licences granted to CSIRO under these Terms and Conditions will not infringe the rights of any person.
  13. CSIRO may at its absolute discretion remove or reject any entry for any reason whatsoever, including if it is not in line with the CSIRO Code of Conduct. CSIRO may determine any entries invalid and/or preclude participation by an entrant if an entrant disrupts, annoys, abuses, acts contrary to law or engages in fraudulent, misleading or deceptive conduct. If the Competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the control of the CSIRO, including as a result of technical failures, CSIRO reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law to modify, postpone, suspend, terminate or cancel the Competition as appropriate.
  14. Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded including any statutory consumer guarantees, neither CSIRO, nor any of their respective officers, employees and agents will be liable for any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or consequential) to persons or property as a result of any person entering the Competition or accepting or using any prize, including without limitation, failure of any winner to contact the promoter, non-receipt of any prize or damage to any prize in transit.
  15. Any questions about CSIRO’s privacy policy or any request to access, modify or delete any information provided in an entry should be directed to CSIROscienceexperiment@csiro.au.
  16. The Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Meta.

If you do not provide any personal information that is reasonably requested of you for the purposes of this competition, you may not be eligible for any prizes or incentives. However, if this occurs, it will not affect your ongoing relationship with CSIRO in any way.
